Black Student Demands

UCSC prides itself on being a community of activists. Unfortunately, a lot of that work has been done by students fighting for an equitable education. Black UCSC students have been calling for certain demands since the beginning. Over time, the specific requests have morphed reflecting student needs. But foundationally Black UCSC students have been asking for an autonomous physical space, a curriculum where they can center themselves, and Black staff in positions to advocate for student needs. In Spring Quarter 2021, the Black Student Union (BSU) released this latest version of demands. Click through this slideshow to view other versions of demands from the past six decades.

This coalition of students of color released these demands on April 7, 1988 A Coalition of Representives from Student Organizations presented demands presented to the Academic Vice Chancellor in 1990.
